Seeking Support

What Support in EI in Care is on Offer?

Many people, teams and organisations in Health and Social Care are wanting to return to values and practices that brought them into health and social care in the first place - a return route – to prioritising kindness, fairness, emotions, and social justice within care services. There are large numbers of people committed to seeing the person first and understanding real care is about ensuring relationship focused support.

In my role as Professor of Emotional Intelligence in Care my particular University focus will be on:

  • engaging with this community of people in their quest
  • focusing on the next generation of young people who can be influencers
  • embedding the links between person centred care and emotional intelligence
  • creating a resource library on Emotional Intelligence in Care
  • speaking and writing with passion on EI in Care from the influential position of the University

For further discussion please contact me on my University email

“During the pandemic we have all been only a flicker away from our own emotional vulnerability.”

Professor David Sheard

“Good news! An important precedent. So good to have you as a leader for this shift towards what’s really important.”

SOCIAL WORKER

Consultancy, Training and Conferences

Primarily my work is University focused and I am considering how best to focus externally as an influencer on Emotional Intelligence in Care - if you have any ideas do let me know.

The University is in support of my role extending into keynote presentations, project work, staff development and research opportunities in wider health and social care both in the UK and beyond.

After 22 years as a former CEO, Consultant and trainer I have a breadth of experience in different methods of learning
and development.

I would welcome talking to people, how I might help in:

  • joining up the implementation of being person centred practices with emotional intelligence approaches
  • enthusing and inspiring groups of staff and teams in becoming more authentic
  • building into health and care services more of people’s lived experiences
  • developing person centred teams through the links of vulnerability and authenticity between people working together
  • introducing and measuring effective emotional intelligence traits, abilities and strategies

Emotional Intelligence in Care is about addressing the belief that not much learning has created nous. It is overly stated that people either have nous and gut instincts or not. This is only partly true, yes some people seem to have innate natural high levels of EI however others can develop this often through being giving time and permission to reflect more on their work and life experiences.

Developing Emotional Intelligence in Care believes many people need support to bring EI out more in their leadership and practice.

It requires:

  • Organisational analysis of its own level of emotional Intelligence
  • Space for people to process their lived working experiences
  • Support in truth telling about cultures of care
  • Opportunities to bring out peoples own dormant emotional intelligence

I look forward to talking with you on the range of ways I might contribute.

“I would welcome discussions around how Emotional Intelligence in Care could be developed and facilitated with you. I work in health and social care settings nationally across the whole of the UK and internationally.”

PROFESSOR DAVID SHEARD

“Maybe you can help the Department of Health and Social Care and others to understand that EI is far more important than NVQ in care when recruiting. This appointment brings hope.”
